We
left Manitowoc Marina at 7:30 AM. Winds were light from the south.
We cleared Rawley's Point and avoided the numerous fish traps
set near the coast. They are not marked by flags, but only small posts holding
the nets. The eight hour down wind run wing & wing was fun, but became rather
boisterous at the end. The Coast Guard issued a severe weather warning that
had us racing to beat the storm to the Sturgeon Bay entrance.
Our problem was whether to race the storm to the channel and seek anchorage,
or to turn about and face it in the open waters. We chose the former and luckily
the worst of the storm passed to the north. Once in Sturgeon Bay,
we waited for the bridge to open and took a slip at Quarterdeck
Marina.
Lighthouse photos through out our site are of ones we passed
and relied on for safe navigation.
